  9. NEW PRODUCT : Bimonthly CD-ROM's For The NeXT Computer

  11. Toronto, Canada - Feb 22 1993 : JANA Publishing has officially launched the
  12. "CD-ROM NeWS For The NeXT Computer" as of February 22, 1993, after a long beta
  13. testing with over 250 subscribers.

  15. This CD-ROM project was started so NeXT users without FTP or Net access can
  16. get NeXT related software. Thanks for a lot of feedback's from NeXT users this
  17. venture will not be just another software collection on CD. Plans are on the
  18. way to support other platforms and to produce a multimedia type of magazine
  19. for NeXT. Also the prices have been lowered.

  21. These CD's contain hundreds of megabytes of NeXT related software including
  22. software from the archives, demos of commercial software, fonts, source codes,
  23. objects and any other interesting NeXT related stuff.

  25. CD-ROM NeWS will be published 6 times a year. The cost of the subscription is
  26. US$59.95 (six CD's) for one year and US$99.95(twelve CD's) for two years.
  27. Residents who live out side of US & Canada have to pay $20/year extra to cover
  28. the postage costs.

  30. This venture is operated as a "not for big profit" business. "Not for big
  31. profit" is between a profitable venture and a non-profit venture. People who
  32. are working on these CD's are getting paid but it's peanuts.  By doing this
  33. the cost of one CD is less then 10 dollars or you are getting 12 CD's for the
  34. price of one CD some other vendors are charging and on every issue you get
  35. newer software. These have been the major reason for brining down the price of
  36. the subscription from $99.95 (Our ad in NWExtra) to $59.95, Also we are not
  37. into this for making huge profits out of NeXT user's pockets.

  39. Also we are working on a plan to give a part of the of the profits to major
  40. FTP sites that holds the NeXT related software. To encourage software ports to
  41. NeXT we hope to sponsor best software events with cash prices.

  43. Support for NeXTSTEP/040 will continue and when NeXTSTEP/Intel is released it
  44. will be  supported. Also software for other UNIX system  will be available on
  45. the CD-ROM mostly in C source forms. This will allow NeXT users to port
  46. software's from various platforms to NeXT.

  48. Starting from the 3rd issue you will not just get software but a multimedia
  49. news magazine with the CD. During the NeXT World Expo this year we hope to
  50. show this. For the first time there will be a news magazine for NeXT where the
  51. news will be on the form text, animation, video and audio. You can see a
  52. software running on the screen and here the reviewer's voice on the speaker.
  53. This multimedia magazine being just an extension on the CD, the subscriber
  54. will continue to get all the great software that is included in each issue.

  58. first issue will be shipped to you and you will be billed.

  60. To maintain a low price we need the help of NeXT users in marketing this
  61. magazine. If you are in charge of a NUG then please contact us for  NUG
  62. discounts. Also we are looking for retailer / agents in US, Canada, Europe and
